Singer

IJahson Crewe

I Jahson aka Edwin Crewe was born in T.K. Trenance, a legendary part of Zimbabwe’s second largest city, called Bulawayo. I Jahson grew up surrounded by different genres of music. Early on he found his way to his passion (music) and especially his love for singing when he started singing in the choir of St. Thomas Church in T.K.Trenance (Skies).

His first recording was for a Coca-Cola ad for Zambia. After visiting Austria / Europe in 1993, he finally moved to Vienna in 1995. Musically he began to work with Jahpremacy in Eisenstadt. So far, he has performed on many stages singing alongside Ras & Roots, Rikitik, House Of Riddim, Black Dilllinger, Chuck Fender, Lee Scratch Perry, Anthony B and many more.

The “Mystik Band” accompanied him on his performances until May 2019. After the sudden death of the band leader, the band was reformed. From that time, they go by the name “Kaya Roots Band.” After splitting up the Kaya Roots Band, a new Band was formed, called “Rockstone Crew”, which is his actual band, performing since 2023.

His debut single «Source Of Life» was released in 2010 on the Viennese label Richvibes Records, followed by the single «Iraq», a unique call to end the war. His 3rd single «Yard» was released 2012, followed by his debut album «Guidance» in 2014. The album includes the singles “Source Of Life” “Iraq”, “Yard” and also “You Must Be”, a collaboration with Black Dillinger from South Africa.

In 2018 I Jahson teamed up with the Jamaican record label «Highrise Empire». The first single on the label, «TK», was released in May 2018. This song is about I Jahsons hometown TK Trenance. “Good Over Evil” followed in November. The lyric video for this was published at the end of 2018. The single had major success in Europe as well as in quite a few parts of Africa.

At the beginning of 2019 he had interviews on radio stations and newspapers in Zimbabwe. This was followed by a number of larger appearances, including at the Global Marihuana March and at the largest reggae festival in Austria, the One Love Festival in Burgenland.

The artist has been working intensively on his 2nd studio album since 2020. It’s titled “Good Over Evil” and has been released on January 16th 2023. The album includes collaborations with Darrio, King Labash and also his youngest son Yan Crewe. Despite the pandemic, the promo tour which was scheduled for summer 2021 did still take place.

Over the the years, the artist has performed in many different countries such as Austria, Germany, Serbia and Australia, just to name a few.

I Jahson was inspired by Black Uhuru, Bob Marley, Israel Vibration, Misty in Roots, among others. He is blessed with 5 children.
